User’s Responsibility:

Segurity: know how to work without harming people or machines.

Cleanliness: leave the laboratory cleaner than before it was used.

Operations: contribute to maintain, repair, and follow-up tools, requirements and incidents.

Confidentiality: the designs produced and processes followed in FabLabs must be accessible for individual uses, although copyright might be protected according to users’ choices.

Business: commercial activities can be incubated in FabLabs, but cannot come into conflict with open access; they should grow outside the laboratory rather than inside; these businesses are expected to benefit the inventors, laboratories and networks that have contributed to their success.

I.1. Anyone entering the workshop must stick to the present rules.

I.2. The use of the FabLab is available for the UJI university community.

I.3. Access is subject to the Lab Manager’s authorisation. These rules need to be accepted and it is necessary to stick to them. They shall be presented on the website and in the workshop.

I.4. To access the FabLab, the contact form must be filled in. The Lab Manager shall answer by indicating when space becomes available in the next few days.

II.1. Become familiar with the location of exits and evacuation routes, extinction materials and the elements to be used to offer first aid in the laboratory.

II.2. Find and learn the instructions in the event of an emergency.

II.3. You must always work under the Lab Manager’s supervision following his/her indications.

II.4 Look for and respect the security signs in your workplace, as well as the instructions about how machines work and are maintained. They indicate if each machine or workplace poses any particular risks, obligations, prohibitions and emergencies.

II.5. Ensure that security signs are always clearly visible and in good condition. Avoid them from being blocked and not seen.

II.6. If you do not know, first ask the meaning of a security sign before acting.

II.7. Keep your workplace clean and object-free. Do not leave your personal effects on worktop surfaces.

II.8. When you finish working in any area, you must clean it properly by leaving any waste and rubbish in the corresponding places.

II.9. You must use resins or adhesives by perfectly covering the table that you are working on with card or newspaper.

II.10. Any process that involves applying paints, and varnishes that release vapours or make the atmosphere hard to breathe in inside the FabLab, are completely forbidden, except with the Lab Manager’s express authorisation.

II.11. Access to storage areas containing material is completely prohibited to anyone who is not a FabLab technician.

II.12. You must ensure that your personal effects or materials do not obstruct doors, circulation areas, fire extinguishers or working areas inside the workshop.

II.13. All users shall be responsible for their material, personal effects and the tool they request. The FabLab shall not be held responsible for loss or robbery.

III.1. To use digital manufacturing machines, you must be trained in their use and follow the FabLab staff’s indications.

III.2. Users shall be made responsible for the machinery and equipment they employ. If they notice any failure, they are obliged to immediately notify the technical personnel.

III.3. Moving machines and equipment is not allowed, nor is rendering useless work tables and working areas with any object.

III.4. To work in any area, the following measures must be taken:

a ) Find out what personal protection equipment (PPE) must be used in the laboratory before performing any activity.

b ) Use only the PPE marked “EC”.

c ) Check the state that PPE is in before using it. Do not use it if you notice any defect, anomaly or damage.

d ) Keep PPE in good condition.

e ) Make sure your footwear completely covers your feet. Access to the FabLab wearing sandles or open footwear is strictly forbidden.

f ) Securely tie up hair.

g ) Remove any accessories: bracelets, rings, necklaces, long earrings, scarves, ear/headphones and any object that could pose a risk.

IV.1. Tools are available for use. You are obliged to check that the tool is in good condition, is complete and is working properly. It you use it when it is broken or not in good condition, and you do not inform the Lab Manager about this incidence, you shall be held responsible for its poor condition.

IV.2. All users shall be responsible for any tool they have used. If the tool breaks or is lost, it should be replaced as soon as possible.

IV.3. When you finish work, you should clean all the tools you have employed and check that they are in good condition.

IV.4. The tool should be kept in the same place it was in before using it.

IV.5. If a user reports or hands in a dissembled tool, the Lab Manager will evaluate it and determine if the reason for it being dissembled was due to the tool not being properly handled. If this were so, the user shall be made responsible and pay the repair cost.

IV.6. Any replaced lost tool must be new, and must be of the same brand, model, measurement and specification as the original tool.

IV.7. No tool shall be taken out of, or used outside, the workshop. No personal loans shall be made.

V.1 The FabLab does not provide any material. Users are responsible for bringing their own material and consumables.

The FabLab does not provide any materials. It is the responsibility of the user to bring their own materials and consumables. However, in order to ensure the correct operation and prolong the life of the FFF Prusa i3 MK3S 3D Printer, the filament must be approved by the FabLab manager.

To facilitate the choice of the appropriate material, the following brands are recommended:

– Fillamentum
– SmartMaterials
– Prusament
– Filament PM

On the other hand, the following will not be accepted:

– Filamento León 3d
– Filamento “Luminoso”
– ABS

V.2. The FabLab provides shelving so that any projects underway can be stored during brief periods of time, provided that the work done on these projects continues for a few days. If work exceeds a reasonable storage period, the Lab Manager shall notify the owner to withdraw the project. If the Lab Manager receives no answer, the project material shall be thrown away.

V.3. At the end of the academic year (end of July), all material or works that do not belong to the FabLab shall be thrown away.

VI.1. Hazardous materials are those that are chemical, or their solutions, with the following characteristics:

  • Ignition point less than 94ºC, or those labelled inflammable or combustible as they are easily ignited.
  • pH lower than 5.5 or over 9.5 (corrosive).
  • Those labelled corrosive, caustic or alkaline.
  • Those capable of reacting at room temperature, classified as explosive, oxidant, decomposers or reacting with water, and those that release toxic vapours or gases.
  • Paint thinners, turpentines, liquid and aerosol paints, oil, petrol, plastic resins, etc.

VI.2. Using toxic substances is not allowed in the Lab.

VI.3. Storing toxic substances is not allowed in the Lab.

VI.4. Waste materials should be placed inside the corresponding containers.

VII.1. Smoking inside the workshop is strictly forbidden.

VII.2. Entering the workshop with food and drink, or eating and drinking in the workshop, are strictly forbidden.

VII.3. Using audio devices is not allowed (including those of personal use, such as MP3 players, loudspeakers, etc.).

VII.4. Using containers must be respected.
